User Reviews about Kiss of Death (Morganville Vampires - Book 8)
Rachel Caine is back at it again with the newest installment of The Morganville Vampire Series, Kiss Of Death. When the gang gets a temporary pass to leave Morganville, the first thing that comes to mind is freedom; sad to say that they won't have as much freedom as they hoped for. Amelie has sent Oliver to be the group's chaperone. Of course right off the bat the gang does not make it to their destination. Instead they find out that a small town had to endure Bishop on his way to Morganville. But there is something wrong with these vampires because Bishop was sick, the vampires that he created became sick, so to speak, too. (I won't say anymore, you'll just have to read to find out what happens)
What I really like about the Morganville Vampire Series is that there is always some new type of adventure. No matter the situation, Claire and friends always seem to find away out of danger. Now that Bishop is out of the picture, Claire now has to worry about a new danger that is ahead for her and her friends. In Kiss of Death, we find out what Bishop was up to on his way to Morganville. Now the question is will Claire be able to handle all that is coming her way? Is the situation bigger than they think is it or are they making a mountain out of a mole hill?
Claire has grown up since the very first time we meet her in Glass Houses but so has her friends Shane, Eve and Michael. The whole character development through out the entire series is amazing. How each relationship Claire has with everyone has grown since the first book.
I am really excited to see what the 9th book, Ghost Town, has in store for all of us! Ghost Town is due out October 26, 2010 and will be the first of the series to be put out in hardback. -- Kiss Of Death
I love these books and cannot get enough of them, but in "Kiss of Death" I must admit to being disappointed near the end. I felt Ms. Caine left the major plot line hanging. When the vampires are attacking our main characters in the garage, all of a sudden they just stop? I re-read the chapter three times, thinking I had missed something- Well, the vamps chased them to the garage, they barricaded the garage, vamps were clawing at the door.... Then, the next thing is that they introduce vamps IN the garage who have been treated, and suddenly the plot line veers to the "Healing vamps" and the vamps outside just magically disappear? The book was fabulous up until this part, and then, it became anticlimatic and terribly disappointing. -- WHAT HAPPENED?!?!
i have read this entire series. i love how the characters have progressed in responce to everything that has happened to them throughout the series. especially claire, she really shines in this book. her intelligence and personality are wonderful. it has been great to see her morph from this shy girl to this brave woman!! i highly recommend the entire series!!! -- entire series has been great to read!
Kiss of Death is a nice addition to the Morganville series. I'm amazed that Rachel Caine is able to continue these characters' stories and relationships in each book without the writing becoming trite. Applause for Rachel, and thumbs up to this book. -- Another good one
Review: Warning: May contain spoilers for those who have not read previous books in the series.
It's normal for most series to start lacking in content after a while. Things start being predictable and the books get boring. This series is the exception to that rule. Even though this is the 8th book in the Morganville Vampires Series, it was packed full of new developments! In this book we leave Morganville for the first time. Claire, Michael, Shane, and Eve get to leave and head to Dallas, Texas in order for Michael to do a recording of his songs. Of course, they must have an interesting escort for their little trip. Since most situations never turn out as planned, the crew runs into some bad situations along the way. They also find out that maybe Morganville isn't so bad after all.
This story shows how much Claire has grown up along the way. She seems to gain some confidence and takes charge of situations. Eve and Michael seem to get over some obstacles that have been intruding on their relationship, and Shane is still his cute self. While the other books have only focused on Morganville, this one shows what might have been happening outside of their dysfunctional town. Maybe things aren't always as they seem. This book was full of action and some new characters. The ending leaves a lot of questions so the next book, Ghost Town, is sure to be another hit! It is due to come out November 2nd of this year. Also, I need to mention that unlike some of the other popular young adult series out there, this one has continued to be released on paperback and not a $13 hardback after 4 or 5 books. I am thrilled over this! Great job Rachel Caine on keeping this series so interesting after 8 books! Keep up the good work! -- KISS OF DEATH is a great addition to this series.
